Mango
Mango trees have been grown and cultivated in most subtropical and tropic regions of the world from India to Southeast Asia and Africa, primarily for its fruit but is also used for its timber. Mango is not a commercial available timber. Mango wood is coarse in its texture and its colour varies from light or golden brown to dark brown and may even be pinkish at its core. It is a hardwood and is easily kiln dried, but can be prone to fungal attacks. In India, mango is used for window frames, and plywood sheets. Mango trees can grow to 90 feet tall and 5 feet in diameter.

Bowl – Mango
Made from locally sourced, salvaged Mango timber from Coffs Harbour. Once the tree is cut up, this bowl underwent a drying process of about 12 months. Firstly, woodturned into the rough shape, a little thicker than the final product. It is then left to dry and distort over a period of about 1 year. Once dry, the bowl is re turned into its final shape, taking care to make sure it is round and all shrinkage marks are removed. The last thing to be done is a hand rubbed oil finish is applied to protect and beautify the surface. Showing off the grain and colour unique to the Mango Tree. Handcrafted by David Barden.
